What we do
Smooth is a national independent commercial radio station, licensed by the Broadcasting Authority, the radio and television regulator in Malta and Gozo.
Our station format is set out below. This information is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we do for the communities we serve.
Transmission
Smooth broadcasts 24 hours a day in high quality stereo on DAB+ digital radio. The signal covers more than 530,000 residents of Malta and Gozo. National coverage is also available online via this website and on smartphones, tablets, laptops and personal computers.
Automation
Smooth automates its programming using computer technology.
Programming
Smooth’s programming output comes from our state-of-the-art broadcast centre in Iklin while our head office is in Gozo.
Our hugely experienced presentation team includes Brian Ford, Martin Buchanan, Michelle Horn, Liam Cash, Micky Gavin, Simon Lumsden, Mikey Faulkener, Simon Clarke, Tony Lloyd, Steve Randall and David Hiskett.
News
BBC News bulletins are aired at 0700, 0800, 0900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000 and 2100.
Playlist
Smooth operates a music playlist which is updated regularly. The songs we play are the best from the past five decades. The Smooth Radio experience is about playing the soundtrack to your life – we play the biggest and best songs from the past 50 years, brought to you by talented and intelligent presenters.
Community
What’s on information for the Maltese Islands can be heard every hour across the day on Smooth, aimed at holidaymakers as well as residents of Malta and Gozo. Smooth also promotes a number of good causes. We broadcast a number of social responsibility campaigns that encourage healthy lifestyles, road safety, fire safety and respect for the environment.
